Teaching
Viola lessons
If you are a violist, you deserve to be taught by a violist. Our instrument is not just a big violin: it has its own technique, its own repertoire, and a unique mode of expression. My teaching is informed by the Hungarian tradition in which I was trained, and by years of study of the history and repertoire of our instrument. Request a trial lesson and see what I have to offer you!
Music theory
Music theory can be daunting for the college-bound musician, but it doesn't have to be — and you can get started early! With private music theory lessons now, you can cover the fundamentals, sightsinging and ear training, harmony, and counterpoint. Not only will it improve your musicianship, it will free your time in music school to focus your attention on performance and forming career-building connections.
Transition training for violinists
Many violinists double on the viola, and I encourage it — it opens up all kinds of performing opportunities, and experience on the viola can be a real boost to your violin playing! Much of your violin technique will transfer, and I can provide guidance on the differences in tone production, left-hand technique — and of course the alto clef — that will help you achieve real viola proficiency quickly. Request a trial lesson and let's make a violist of you!
